Prevention-Based Programs
Each input—whether it is feather meal or meat and bone meal—is tested at our labs at the plant level. These inputs are also routinely sent to independent labs for full analytic testing of nutrients and heavy metals. In addition, tests are conducted for microbiological contaminants, further ensuring product quality and food safety.
The stringent testing of our ingredients is outlined by the FDA’s Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA), Preventative Controls for Animal Food, and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) safety models.
Plant and Employee Safety
Our #1 priority will always be the wellbeing of our ever-growing Darling Ingredients team. Every production facility has a safety-first culture. We believe that by making safety a core value for our team, that same principle will carry through to our products.
Training is mandatory at all of our facilities that manufacture our fertilizer ingredients.The internal training modules are developed from the food safety procedures in prerequisite programs to include Hazard Analysis Risk Based Preventive Controls (HARPC) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans.
Listings and Registrations
We make safety our top priority in order to make growing easier for our customers. Nature Safe fertilizers are approved for unrestricted use in organic crop production by the USDA National Organic Program. Many of our fertilizer formulations are listed and registered with a variety of Material Review Organizations including:
- California Department of Food and Agriculture Organic Input Materials Program (CDFA/OIM)
- Washington State Department of Agriculture. (WSDA) Organic Program
- Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI)
In addition, our Turlock, CA plant voluntarily adheres to Leafy Green Marketing Agreement (LGMA) standards.
